If we trust individuals or small groups of people to determine whether or
not we go to prison for the rest of our lives (i.e. judges) surely we can
put together a small committee of journalists, jurists, retired politicians
or whoever to pick the top ten election issues of a particular year in a
particular area. It doesn't have to be perfect, it would just have to get
people to do a little reading on who is running and what their positions on
the major issues are.
Yet the 12 members of the jury are only dealing with facts
presented to them about THAT matter. With politics, there are
way too many 'x-factors' over too many state borders with too
many opinions about what matters or not. What you speak of,
we already have. Folks can watch/surf to whatever places they
want, to get the facts they want to know about. Who would
decide what? I think we already have what you speak of, and
I wouldn't want anyone to 'decide' the reasons anyone should
vote. No, that was not what you were saying, I know. Yet
if we get to a 'top 10 list' insanity, does that make the other
matters not of meaning..? WHO decides what is important?
One man's decision about heath care against someone who
wants to build a bridge for horses (all 40 of them) costing
$2mill. That's a easy choice. But who decides?
Free speech and freedom of choice, and all that kinda rot.
