I noticed that some people hype the tube's getter when advertising tubes
(i.e. emphasis on a "thick" getter, or a "D" getter). From my
understanding, the getter absorbs the gasses in the tube. Does the "D"
getter, or other letters, refer to it's shape? Does the thickness, size
and/or shape of the getter affect the sound or does it have more to do
with the tube's longevity (i.e. a thicker getter will extend the life of
the tube because it can absorb with more efficiency)?

The getter design often tells you something about the date of production of the tube. So it's not that the D getter is special, it's that the TUBE is special.

Also, black plates vs. gray plates. Is there any difference is sound, or
does it all depend on the tube the plate it in? Do black plates run
cooler than the gray plates because the absorb/reflect more heat? From
my research, black plates came before gray plates. From what I've read,
the length of the plate affects the sounds more than the color.

You can't generalize. Other black plate tubes won't sound like an RCA black plate, for example.

But carbonized nickel does have characteristics that make it a good choice for plate material. Look up thermal emissivity and plate dissipation.

I've just begun my research of the make-up of tubes, so the point of
this post is to confirm that I'm taking in the information correctly.

Thanks again for helping me out,
