That really was purely a lack of good PR by the Bushies. They picked
the wrong justification. And part of the neocon values pantheon is a
contempt for PR. I am, frankly, amazed that Karl Rove let
that one get out. Rumsfeld kept a letter of resignation typed
up in his office from the outset of that.

And I might add - intel. is never reliable. Ever. But you got what
you got.

If the WMD justification was nothing more than P.R., what do you suppose
the true reason was for the Bush administration choosing to invade Iraq?

Tony

Wolfowitz had a file cabinet fulla papers written about Gulf War I, so
they used those. That's how this works....

I am not saying that this is good policy; I am saying that it makes
me queasy to think that had they spun it differently, we'd be in a
different world.

Really, watch Oliver Stone's "W". It reinforces everything I
beleive about George W. Bush.

You've side-stepped my question, so I'll ask it again.

If the WMD justification was nothing more than P.R., what do you suppose
the true reason was for the Bush administration choosing to invade Iraq?

Tony

If I side-stepped your question, then you are looking for a specific
answer which does not follow from the facts in evidence.

Nope. I'm asking your opinion. If the WMD justification was, as you
said previously, "nothing more than P.R.", why do you think the Bush
administration wanted to invade Iraq?

Because it was a burr under the saddle, an itch they couldn't scratch.

A challenge was left on the floor, and it could not be resisted.
Seriously? It was the Shiny Red Button (the history eraser button)
from Ren & Stimpy, "Space Madness". Irresistible.

The better question is "why did *WE* want to kick the crap out of
Iraq?" Because we did, you know . We wanted blood. I know I did.
How about you?

We did because of wroth. Pure Seven Deadly Sins reasoning. Failure to
constrain the limbic system.

An extremely simple question. You have every right to say "I don't
know" or simply give your opinion.

Care to try again, without all the tap-dancing?

Tony

If you think that was tap dancing, you simply don't understand. Once
you reject bias, there's one hell of a story under all that, and it
is truly worth having even the fraction of an understanding I
have of it. That had much more to do with Fort Sumpter and the
reaction to that as it did with any player in that game. Saddam
was playing a losing chess game and ... he lost.

Bush did a workman's job without complaint in a very difficult time.
I expect historians will look kindly on him.
