Yeah, you have a point there. It's also been demonstrated that the
politically best-informed group of television viewers are the audience of
The Daily Show. It seems that even though that show is after laughs they
discuss actual issues on the way there, and people can't help but learn a
little as they watch. Isn't that a sad commentary on contemporary American
culture?

I seem to recall that someone who was running for president in 2008 made a statement, then deemed controversial, about people turning to guns and religion when times get tough.
From what I've seen since, he was right.
