I did not mention, I did do a quick contiuity check between a known
good ground, and the pot lugs themselves, and that checked out fine.
Does this new data change your recommendation?

If you are right, the PCB has been modified to bypass the volume pots.

** Must be a crack in the PCB and a broken ground trace from the pot leg
grounds.
Do a ground continuity test and scratch the green resist around the
relevant
traces till you can see the crack.

Uh, Phil, what is this "top post" you yelled at me about?? Did I
break some convention regarding posting? If so, I don't understand
what that might have been, and would appreciate an (however brief)
explanation.
Regarding the preamp, the board definitely does not appear to have
been modified.
