You can donate all of the money you want, but chances of it having a
meaningful impact on Haitian citizens is highly doubtful. The
situation in Haiti is yet another example of a situation in which
throwing money at a problem is an exercise in futility.
Nations with a history of being exploited by colonial powers are
frequently mismanaged by their own people decades and even centuries
later.
However, the solution is not to turn our backs upon them.
And it doesn't help that the administration of President George H.W.
Bush was still undermining Haiti as recently as 1991. Do some Googling
on the ousting of democratically elected Haitian leader Jean-Bertrand
Aristide and the formation of the paramilitary group FRAPH.

It isn't a matter of my wanting to turn my back on people in need. It
is the pragmatic question of exactly where your money will go once you
stroke the check. You don't know where it will go. Neither do I. There
is nothing to stop it from lining the pockets of the very people who
have victimized the Haitian citizens in the past.
When you can tell me where the money will go, then I can support
sending money. Until then, I refuse to throw money on a problem when
the very act of throwing money is what has propped up those who have
benefited most from the suffering of the Haitian people.
Do you know where the money will go and can you give me a system in
place that allows me to follow the money?
