preamps.  One of the questions I have, other than general advisement
lol, is how many watts should I use for the tube preamp?

  preamps are very low power devices ... consume milliamps ...
  generally run a plate voltage of 100+ .. "wattage" is usually
  used to describe the final output stage of the amp ...
  even though a preamp tube consumes watts ( i*e ).

be able to tap into the one that is already in my amp, or do I need to
get another one specifically for the preamp?

  You will need a power transformer .. for a power supply.

  Instead of looking at entire tube amps .. you may want to seek out a
  "tube preamp"  only  scematics / devices ...

FWIIW : I've seen tube preamp kits on ebay that may be more up your
alley ... do more home work ;-{

So is that Marshall schematic that I had an entire amp?
.
