I couldn't agree more. The "religious" nature pertains to the old-style
"natural principle" stuff that Spender was spouting. Psychology and
sociology are good analogies to economics for the most part but it's
awfully difficult to run controlled experiments in the latter. The
mathematical aspects are as rigorous in economics as they are in the
"hard" sciences, don't get me wrong. But the free market is a man-made
concept, there's nothing "natural" about it whatsoever.

You really seem to be having trouble with this. Perhaps it is because
economics, as it applies to this topic, is dealing with something that
only humans engage in. Some people seem to believe that man is not
natural, and therefore anything man comes up with is also not natural.

That's The Fundamental Mistake. Where did Adam' children's wives
come from? Man is part of nature. But unfortunately, for
purposes of constructing narratives, we must have conflict,
and one conflict is Man v. Nature ( although it's not as
popular as it once was ).

Especially anything that exists as a result of individual vs collective
behavior.

Collective behavior is observably less natural than individual behavior.
