That's the max ambient temp. Higher than that, you need to derate.
Temperature and voltage rating of wire are 2 different animals. IOW,
you can find 1000V wire rated @ 90C, or 300V wire rated @ 105C.

Here's the madness....if I put unmarked wire in the oven for a while
(15-20min) and it doesn't melt at 250F (121C), is that a reliable test?
125C would be 1000V rated.

Reliable for temperature rating, I guess.

Insulation is generally tested with a Megohmeter ("Megger"). Maybe
you know an electrician in your area that has one. Or just go ahead
and use the stuff.

Thanks for the clarification. I'm inclined to use it. I gave a hard look
under intense light at the grey outer jacket for the bundle and finally saw
that it is rated for 300V. Given it's industrial application, I'm thinking
that is a minimum rating.

No, it's a max. The minimum rating would be 0V. ;o)

I don't think I'd put it in an SVT, but I'm
thinking it will do fine if voltage happens to get into the low to mid
300's.

Anyway, I've got other stuff that I can use where the voltage is too
high. You know how I am...just squeezing the buffalo on the nickel to see
if it shits.

That got a chuckle out of me. We tend to be quite frugal around here,
so I can relate. I still have bunches of #18 solid 1000V pieces if
you want, but you'd have to spring for postage...
