Re: Michael Moore RIPS Obama: "Don't take our votes for granted"

Now THAT's just crazy. Yes, Moore plays things loose sometimes, but
Limbaugh LIES.

"Plays things loose" is a charitable way of describing Moore's
tactics. For example showing the front page of a newspaper with text
imposed over it that looks like a headline which didn't actually
appear in that newspaper, (causing the newspaper to threaten a
lawsuit over the misrepresentation) sure looks like a lie to me.

I'm not familiar with what you're talking about. But are you sure it
wasn't supposed to be a satirical headline? I mean, was it really
meant to be taken literally?

It was in F9/11, and it wasn't meant as satire or Moore would have tried to
explain it away as such. Instead he claimed it was just a coincidence that
the text he put on the screen just happened to be in a font and in a
location that some folks might mistakenly think it was a headline on the
newspaper also shown on the screen--not the first time he's claimed that the
interpretations many people take from scenes in his films wasn't deliberate
on his part--sure Mike. The headline was actually the title of a letter to
the editor appearing inside the newspaper on a different date, Moore
converted it to a front-page headline of a news story to make it appear the
newspaper was saying something Moore wanted said (concerning the outcome of
the 2000 election in Florida). I think this goes to the heart of what Moore
does, he uses half-truths and suggestion and distortion to lead his audience
where he wants them to go, and he does it so frequently there is no way it
isn't intentional.

Omitting information that would lead the viewer to reach a conclusion
other than what Moore is looking for is also way more than playing it
loose. E.g. suggesting that the presence of a nearby military
missile plant somehow creates a dark, violent vibe that influenced
the Columbine killers is less successful if the viewer knows the
missiles are used to launch communications satellites, not warheads,
and so on.

Maybe in minds that aren't warped like the minds of those kids.

Well then why not blame violent comic books and sugary fast foods as well?
That makes as much sense as what Moore did. His work relies heavily on that
sort of technique, suggesting rather than demonstrating, inferring rather
than documenting, quick cuts from one short scene to another so as not to
give the viewer too much time to think about what he just saw. IMO if what
Moore is saying is true he wouldn't need to rely on sleight of hand like
editing a series of shots to make it seem that individual sentences from
different speeches actually came from one speech on one occasion, and to
alter the meaning of what was said in one of those speeches.

Limbaugh might be more flamboyantly obvious in how he
does it, but they're both in the same business.

Limbaugh is out for no one but himself. He's a danger to this
country. Not so of Moore.

Limbaugh and those like him (our own Spewboi is a good example) know when
they're lying but they justify it as being on behalf of a worthy cause. I
believe Moore is no different. Offering something other than the
unvarnished truth as "documentary" *is* a danger to the country because it
misinforms people and it falsifies the record, and all too many people don't
know the difference between propaganda and documentary. And Michael Moore
lives awfully well for someone who isn't in it for himself, unless living in
a multi-million-dollar luxury home, traveling first class and dining in
five-star restaurants just doesn't count. IMO Moore and Limbaugh have very
similar motivations, they just back different causes.
