A couple of examples:
At the very beginning, the F# note ("I'd like to hear...") is flat
to my ears as is the next F# ("rhapsody").
Later, "sends me way up": you're straining to hit "up" (not sure if
you're trying to hit G or G#, my ears want to hear G#).

Even if you don't use pitch correction software, you might find it
useful anyways to view the pitches of sung notes graphically. It's an
objective assessment, unlike your or my ears. I find it useful to
examine my first-take vocals this way, take notes on where I'm off,
and practice those parts over before I do more takes.

I'm a decent backup.harmony vocalist too but it's a different
situation (for me as well) when your vocals are out there on their
own with not much else supporting them. I also find it easier to
stay in pitch when someone else is singing a different vocal part
along with me, and in that sense I think singing harmony parts is
easier.- Hide quoted text -

Rich - thanks! I'll give these areas careful attention.

Do you have any pitch software you recommend? I supposed I would need
it as a VST or DX plug-in - correct?

Mr Soul

I guess so.
I have Roland's "V-Vocal" which came with Sonar Producer. I'm not sure
if it's available separately. There are a lot of folks on alt.guitar
who know a lot more about VST plug-ins than I do, and also they'd be
willing to give the song a listen and be much more likely to give you
constructive suggestions without ridiculous political alliances
interfering with their ability to assess the song objectively
:-)

Celemony Meledyne is the king of pitch correction plugins, especially
if you work with it graphically. It makes V-Vocal look an old DOS
program.

I listened to your project yesterday and didn't comment. I listened to
it again today and I didn't object to it as much. It seems to grow on
you a little bit.

I've never heard the song before, so I don't know how it compares and
maybe that is good for me. I have no real problems with the mix. You
can hear everything. The playing seems satisfactory and guitar tone is
always a matter of taste. It sounds like one was run through a 60's
type fuzz.

The weakest part, like most homegrown songs, is the vocals. They did
sound better today than yesterday. I think they are passable for the
song, but rarely do these home projects have a Robert Plant singing on
them. It's much easier to mimic a guitar than a vocal and you will
always lose doing a cover. Again, maybe since I haven't heard the
original, I don't object as much.

Like Rich said, you'd probably get a better reception in alt.guitar.
I've heard some pretty amatuerish stuff get high marks in there, way
below what you put up. Keith Adams seemed to be the only one who hated
everything. Now it looks like White Spririt is trying hard to take his
place.

On a side note - I notice you have a download "store". Have you ever
made any money doing that? Be honest. Just curious if people actually
pay for unknown musicians.

And remember... what does Mulay say? "Just so you're having fun" or
some shit.
