I mainly work on military stuff, but I cannot count how may times some
flux that was not properly cleaned or stray solder has caused problems
that had the "brains on a stick" scratching their heads...
I had some big time 'amp tech' in Boston once all tied
up in knots over flux. Idiot tried to explain it was
(& I quote) a "protective covering between connections
that should never EVER be cleaned". Well, his highness
had the amp (a pre-6550 SVT) on his bench for a week,
and when he was out for a few days, his '2nd in command'
& I cleaned it. Amp is still running, to this day.
I've been fixing amps since I was 16. Amazes me how stupid
some folks are, the simple stuff just flys past them.
But today, with all the info out, on the Internet or via
books, that us old farts (days.com) had to contact the
companies directly over, still idiots think they can fix
and or build amps. Flocking wankers. 70% of them.
