Re: ..Snake oil for rubes...

Later in life, there was a company who sold different
shades of green 'sharpies' depending on the type of
MUSIC that was on the disc. Folks bought a ton of them
at $25 each. I posted comments on it, and was hated by
the suckers who payed the cash to fuel their stupidity.

Good grief, that's hilarious. Many years ago I belonged to an audiophile
club, buncha guys who would get together over a mini-keg of beer and listen
to hi-fi recordings, check out a member's new amp or turntable or whatever.
We even had a private lending library of hi-fi discs (I was smart enough to
volunteer to be librarian). But for the most part we weren't nuts (except
for one or two guys), the hardware had to make an actual difference in the
sound, hype wouldn't cut it. In fact we used to make fun of the goofs who
bought the insane gear based on reviews in snooty audio magazines. We'd
even invite local dealers to audition gear for us when somebody wanted to
buy new hardware, let them try to prove to our ears that their stuff sounded
better. A-B tests that clearly showed somebody else's brand was better were
always fun.

In my youth, I worked for many Hi-Fi shops, and agree, that there
is some products then that sounded better then others. AH, da old days.

I think there is a point of diminishing returns. Spending more does get you
better sound up to a point, but after that it's mostly just ego
reinforcement. And just as with guitar amps there are people who worship
the gear itself, the technology is more important to them than the music
they listen to.

AMEN.

One
Big
Ass
Mistake,
America!

It will take them a year to understand that, BTW.

How long did it take you to figure out the previous holder of the job was a
real bad choice?

Day one. I was never a 'Bush' fan. But the new boss is the
same as the old boss, with the same level of folks sponging
off him. But now, it's spewed as 'change'..and it's not.

Obama has done a few things that I am impressed with..not going
with the Fairness Doc, and the mileage tax. But I just don't
see him as the 'god' folks do..someone who can do no wrong, and
if I don't like what he does (Sim Package), I'm evil and stupid.

Not that McCain was any gem either. It's just that Obama is a
pre-packaged puppet that was shoved down everyone's throat.

...and we'll (& the generations to come) will pay for things in this
Sim Pack (too much pork/BS to list) for years to come..and beyond.

My 2 cents, of course. But not every person who dislikes Obama is
a 'Bush' fan, or an idiot. Well, at least not for that reason...

Sell us a president, agency man
Smiling Big Brother, stern father perhaps
Sell us a president, agency man
A lame smiling nothing we know never craps

Let's try CNN,
(Pay us first before we do it!)
We'll get a smiling puppet
And march him right on through it
Rent a baby
Kiss a baby
Ladies in for tea

And here's a bunch of speeches
We'll toss them in for free

Sell us a president, agency man
Smiling Big Brother, stern father perhaps
Sell us a president, agency man
A lame smiling nothing we know never craps

We'll sell him in the media
On the tube throughout the year
We'll sell him by the buckets
To the Libs who live in fear
We'll teach him how to walk and talk
We'll putty up his chin
We'll print his picture everywhere
Of course the SCHMUCK will win

From the heart of our fantasy
To the ruling of our land
A simple trick, you simple pigs
Just the way we planned
