Deep and broad tax cuts (for all income levels and

Tax cuts won't do jack for the millions of people now out of work or about
to be out of work. People are scared, they're sitting on their money, they
aren't going to run out and buy SUVs and furniture and vacations just
because they got a tax cut. Therefore businesses currently without
customers are not suddenly going to do better because people got a tax cut.
Nor are tax cuts going to fix crumbling roads and bridges, or pay for two
wars, or rebuild schools with ceilings falling in, or put cops on the street
(a bad economy is going to mean more crime) and so on and so forth. Nobody
likes paying higher taxes, but nobody has lived through an economic
situation like this for seven decades. Trusting business to fix itself is
obviously a fool's errand, unrestrained greed on Wall St. is largely
responsible for this mess. I fully expect the Dems to mess up a lot of this
recovery plan, they're already throwing money at issues having little if
anything to do with economic stimulus. But that doesn't mean that an
attempt to jump-start the economy is itself a bad idea. Somebody has to do
something, and tax cuts ain't it.
