Well.. I burned an EZ80 rectifier tube on my mod Old 53?s Radio TubeNeat experiment! Thanks for posting it...
that has El84 Single-Ended Class A configuration. Initially, it just
being used the ?phono? section for power amp and using my H+K Tube20
preamp to feeds in the front.
The PT provides around 350 VAC for rectification and the heater around
5 VAC, since the rectifier tube was burned out, then I use 4 amp diode
rectifiers to make it working.
Lately found that in many news group and forum that some late amp, for
example ?68 Ampeg B-25, being found with 6L6 and some others with 5881
in rectifier position.
Based on more curiosity, lately founds out that that could be make
some sort of Half-Wave Rectification, but still could be able to feeds
smoothing 50 uF Filter Caps, but little bit longer time delay, makes
more sag/compress sound in the end.
Then tried that on initial my Tube Radio, put EL84 on rectifier
position.. it works..!!
Voltage drops at 230-250 VDC on EL84 plate power tube position, but
notices more compress sound compare with diode...
Interesting..!! This Rectifier tube replacement with Power tube..
since hard & almost impossible to find EZ80 replacement in my place/
country?
Maybe the scenario also works for 5AS4 or so with the same pin power
tube position (6L6/5881), even just being Half?Rectification (as Half-
Wave rectifier)..
