illegal.
Why were switchblades outlawed ? They were a cult/pulp
favorite back in the day.. thugs and mob types always
pulled a 'blade to terrify a suspect.
Switchblades were outlawed in the 50's due to Hollywood's depiction of
greasers and biker thugs. Passing a law somehow made Ward and June Cleaver
immune from being stabbed.
Such thinking still promotes laws today. The assault rifle ban covered
primarily rifles that look scary with no thought at all given to what
bullet they fire. So an AR-15 with certain purely cosmetic features is on
the list, while a Ruger Mini-14 (which fires the same .223 cartridge) is
not. That bullet will blow through the vests most commonly worn by police
officers regardless of which rifle fires it.
It didn't matter that such rifles are used in less than 2% of gun crimes.
I want my Tommy Gun back.
They are still readily available in semi-auto form, complete with the drum
magazine.
They are only a cosmetic copy. Closed bolt, floating firing pin models for a grand, when the origonal open bolt versions were a fourth of that.
A registered open bolt version will sell upwards of 15 grand now.
