Hi!
I'm looking to pick up a used Marshall. Not looking for an original
plexi or something super vintage or spending $$$$. I just want
something that will give that tried and true (and perhaps cliched)
"Marshall Crunch" that I've loved since high sschool (I'm 43 now).
Everything I have seen/read about the JCM 2000 DSL/TSL series has been
a lack of reliability. The newer JVM/JMPs seem to be more akin to a
POD than a real Marshall IMHO and are rediculously priced. I found a
nice JTM 30 today, but people reportedly have had big reliability
issues with this one too. So, outside of buying a real plexi or a
2203/2204 what do you gurus suggest? Thanks!
Matt
Consider having one built? I ordered an 18W clone with 36W from
Ceriatone and it truly rocks.
I love old Marshalls but they be too loud; the 36W can also pump
ridiculous volumes, but at least you _can_ switch it to 18W and still
sound good...my JCM800 I also liked a lot on the clean channel, but
the volume...anyway, the Bluesbreaker always was the best Marshall
sound to me and I don't think I could think of anything I'd like more
than the 36W. Jazz to classic rock, it's the shaite indeed...and it
has that all-tube magic that needs no 'verbs or nuthing. And the
price...even ready built and shipped to Finland with almost 400 bucks
for freight it still cost me about 1/4th of a comparable Marshall.
I also love a 2204, had a combo in for a while and it does rock big
time but the sheer volume etc. make it a one-trick pony for me.
The 36RPM can do that sound, plus a lot warmer drive as well.
I never liked the TSL/DSL series at all, or 900's.
Cheers,
Dee
