Our country is just fine. Things are the way they are for (very) good

Six million more people living below the poverty line, another million with no health insurance--just fine?
It's fine, not perfect.
6M is not a very credible figure. Cite, please.
How 'bout the Bureau of the Census CPS?
POVERTY LEVELS IN AMERICA:
Clinton's last year,
2000 - 31,054,000 Americans below the poverty level

Last year under Bush,
2007 - 37,276,000 Americans below the poverty level

I make that an increase of OVER 6M. In fact, 6,222,000. And, before somebody says "because the population grew," NO! It's can increase from 11.3% to 12.5%.
Fair enough - I did not dig for very long. That *does* suck. Then
again, I was in poverty for two years after graduation from college....
A friend of mine works for the Salvation Army, and maybe it's
just observer bias, but she credits the lion's share of
unemployment/poverty to drugs and alcohol.
And, wanna take bets on what happens with the 2008 data???
It'll be fine. :)
