I am relatively clueless in amps or electronics in general so beware.
My question is related to hooking up two amps together in series. I
have a tube amp that sounds great but it is lacking an effect loop.
However, it does have a headphone output that cuts the main speaker
off. Can I use that signal as a preamp and drive it through another
tube amp used as a power amp? The idea is that I could use some
effects between both, similar to an effect loop. This kind of setup is
usually achieved with PAs I guess, but will it work with a second amp
without damaging any of them?
No tube amp I've ever seen has a headphone output. 'Specially one that
disables the speaker out. Line out, yea. Too hot for a guitar amp
input? Yep. I wouldn't bother with it.
Like I mentioned in another post, the master amp is a Vox Valvetronic
combo amp, a hybrid tube/solid state amp (the preamp driven by a 12AX7
tube, the power being solid state). This amp has a special feature
rarely seen on any amp, is dummy load circuit an additional pot at the
back to control the output wattage between from 100% to 1 watt, which
allows to drive the preamp tub pretty hard without generating high
output signals and decibels. And the Vox Valvetronix combo series does
have a headphones output that cuts off the main speaker without
putting damageable impedence on the amp itself.
