Honestly, I don't think you've though this through and you have some
conclusions I don't believe are correct.
On one hand, you say you've never actually played a BFSR, but you are
willing to spend over $1k for one. That doesn't compute with me. I'd
encourage you to seek out exactly what you want and be sure before you buy
or have built.
On the other hand, your suggestion that a new clone is better than an old
fixer-upper isn't right either. Those old SF and BF amps are built like
tanks and are very service friendly. You can get one serviced by a
competent tech and have many years of reliable service, and without any
worry. Of course, anything can go wrong at any time -- I'm not talking
about odd-ball stuff.
If you want nice looking BF cosmetics, then you will need to purchase a new
cabinet somewhere. I assure you, no tone comes with the cab.
