Good Evening All and Allettes,
I just picked up an extremy clean (well.. needs cleaning, but otherwise clean) 77 Deluxe Reverb.
I like the sound but needs new power tubes. I am NOT planning on Blackfacing it since I acutally LIKE the way it sounds. Having said that.. you cant stop me from tinkering. Here is my question:
On my other fender amps it always says the circuit name (6G4 in my Super.. AB763 in my Tremolux etc etc). Since this is a late 70s amp it doesnt say that. The amp came with the original owners manual and envelope but no schematic. How do I know what circuit my amp uses? I know that even when it does say AA864 on the tube chart that doesn mean that that is what is in the amp but just curious how everyone figures this out. Do you just work your way through the chain looking at all the schematics til you find the closest match?
Just curious... not life or death.. I havent even checked the caps on this beasty yet.
Drew
Hi drew,
IMHO the differences between the version are easy to spot.
sometimes it was just one single component
e.g.
filter cap arrangement,
Change of resistors in the B+ rail
Change of bias scheme
Change of input coupling cap to the PI
Introduction of MV
Introduction of Boost circuit
The dreaded cathode resistors at the power tubes..
.....
If you know where to look at, it's quite obvious which circuit you most likely have. Some deviations were not documented in commonly available schematics...
regards
Jochen
