Does this guitar have a Whammy Bar where
the bar is dumped so far that sliding strings
will slide in both directions through the nut
slots? In the non whammy Bar guitar, during
normal playing, the strings can only slide in
the nut slots in *ONE* direction.
Normal playing means not bending the neck?
More below...
Not BOTH, once the NEW and SMOOTH
strings are properly stretched and tuned,
with a properly cut at the Gibson factory nut.
But Rich, five years ago you said:
Me, I just slap 'em on, tune 'em up, and in 5 to
10 minutes, they just normally play themselves in.
That's it. No big deal.
BTW, I use Fender 150 .008 ga. strings. Standard set.
Have we changed philosophies? Now you stretch strings?
This is more important in the guitar setup equation,
and makes absolutely unnecessary any NEED for
any such thing as Big Ben's Nut Sauce on a non
whammy Bar Les Paul.
Maybe... but not on an SG. Know why? Because
an SG guitar *is* a whammy bar.
....
Next, not once does he mention the effects
produced by a string with a twist in it.
Or mention what causes such a condition,
HOW to check for it, and/or prevent such
a twist from happening in the first place.
Either give up your pearls, Rich, or don't tantalize us!
....
However, here we sit now with the guitar all tuned up ready to go. But is
it really?
Did anyone notice that neck support thing on the table?
Look at it. Is that neck not prone to bending from its own weight?
Plus the additional weight of the hands working on it?
Would that support matter more if the guitar were an SG?
Will that guitar be flat in pitch when it's taken off that support?
The answers to all of the above.... is YES!!!!!!!!!
Then Les Pauls need nut sauce... the strings can
go lower, resulting in movement across the nut.
I put graphite on the nut of my acoustic, even.
I get broken truss rods in here that were
snapped off by people who were encouraged
to adjust them without the proper information
supplied.
And you're not going to advise us to relieve
the tension of the rod before turning the nut?
Perhaps that neck rest thingie might come
in handy here?
....
Then, he implies the possibility of a guitar
stand eating away the Gibson finish in
seconds of being placed in a guitar stand.
Hey, from China, who knows?
If you can't setup a stock strat to stay in tune,
you ain't got the basics done yet, and I guess you
don't guitar tech for those guys then.
I heartily agree... but the player has to know
how to tune and play in tune.
Great rant, Rich.
