If these EL34's cannot be operated
within safe parameters ( safe for the amp) and provide a usable sound
output, I wouldn't even bother with them.

I agree. What would you recommend as a safe maximum for the amp, btw?

EL34's are not the be-all end-all
of vacuum tubes. 6L6GC works just fine in there, and you DON'T have to
modify
the bias circuit. That works for me.

Would I need to change the NFB resistor or any caps for the tone
stack? I assume the screen grid resistors will be fine at 1k 5W. If
I don't find an EL34 I like in this amp, I might go with a KT77,
assuming I don't need any modification.
