I have heard a lot about the fabolous AC30 sound, I'm sure that it's
existing, I just need some guidance as to how to obtain it? My guitar is a
top notch vintage 64 strat. My VOX has been equipped with new tubes, tested
and found in good working condition. I'm sure that this combination should
be able to deliver great sound, but the sound right now is, tin like,
without sparkle and twang. How do I get that sparkling sound that many
others describe?
( My VOX AC30 has a B on the S/N plate).
The "B" in the S/N indicates that it was originally intended
as a Bass model, not that anyone would use an AC 30 as a
Bass amp... This model can be a bit bassy/muffled with guitar.
A skilled tech who is familiar with the circuit could revoice
the preamp to a (N)ormal configuration or possibly add a
(T)opBoost circuit which is a bit more invasive but would
provide you with all the sparkle and twang that you would want.
The speakers are also a large factor in the tone of the amp.
If you have original Vox blues or silvers (same speaker,
different paint) then that would also go a long way to
providing the tone that you say you would like.
