Re: OT - right-wing smear machine

Then why do you act as if there are? Why do you keep saying your definition
of smear is right and mine is wrong?
This whole discussion is a matter of opinion - is it not? Your
definition of smear seems to be a more general one than mine.

Oh really, so your statement that this was just a case of someone informing
the public doesn't exclude politics as a motive? Your claim that this was
all done by a reporter doesn't exclude politics as a motive?
Oh - I didn't mean to imply that. However, I don't claim the reporter
who broke the Bush DUI story was doing it out of political
motivation. As I indicated, the stuff about Bush's AWOL was just
clear smear IMO.

A smear relying on falsehood does seem worse, but it doesn't change the fact
that in both cases the actions were undertaken to hurt the chances of a
candidate being elected. That's the part you don't seem to want to admit,
that a smear that uses facts is still a smear.
No - I admit that the Bush DUI story was a story that would hurt
Bush. The main issue for you seems to be timing - correct? If the
story had come out several months before the election then it wouldn't
be smear in your eyes?
