I been visiting 18watt.com and someone there has made the case that one
should NOT use a tranny bolt for a ground. He says,: "...the other reason
for not using the transformer bolts is that they a point of stress on the
chassis. Even using locking washers, they can work loose causing a loss of
ground. This is why UL frowns on using them as ground points. The ground
point should be free of physical stress. If you loose a good ground
connection in the chassis the player becomes the next convenient place for
the current to flow."
I've seen a number of folks here recommend using a tranny bolt and have done
so on a number of occasions. Wondering if those more familiar with this
sort of thing have a comment.
In Canada, CSA insists that the ground bolt not be used for any other
purpose except terminating the ground wiring.

Question for techs: have you seen loose tranny bolts very often? The
point made about them being a potential weak spot makes perfect sense,
but I suspect it is very rare. It won't stop me from doing it, unless
I hear that techs are seeing problems with the practice.

True statement. It's the *first* thing I check for when opening
an amp. If there are any grounds made to lugs on tranny
bolts, I remove the wires and solder them directly to the
chassis. No exceptions. Of course, most of the stuff I
do is for road guys; it will probably never be a problem
for bedroom jammers like Mulay, Blum, Anable, etc.
World Series, huh? Damn, I don't care much for any
sport played with a round ball, but I gotta confess - it's
kinda excitin'. I'm figuring out how to get paid with it...
I'll get a *taste* for sure, because I have nearly 9,000
folks in my mailorder customer database, and sure as
***, some of 'em will fly to Denver for a game or two
and make a pilgrimage to see the Lord. (I get three or
four of those a month anyway, while people are waiting
for connecting flights.) That last game against the
Diamondbacks, I could hear the crowd roaring from
my yard! (Fireworks were much louder... ;-) Did ya
see the giant "CR" spelled out with lit windows on
that skyscraper down by 20th and Welton?
