Don't overdrive a solid state amp to get a dimebag distortion. Use

which he reputedly used with the Krank tube amps at the end of his career.
I read somewhere the reviews of those pedals and there's general
disappointment about them, it seems that they don't emulate
quite well the sound I like...
That doesn't surprise me, those types of pedals aren't magic, they can't really convert the average player into their guitar hero.
The Seymour Duncan Dimebucker pickup is also supposed to be a key to his tone: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/humbuckersdescr.shtml#sh13
I'm not a huge Dimebag fan, but I'd still play with various distortions followed by a good equalizer before attempting a project like building an amp from scratch.
Have you tried the Line 6 Uber Metal? It has lots of options in one pedal. It switches between three gain levels, has a noise gate, and very reactive tone controls. It's one of those pedals that takes some time to dial in, but it might be some help. The musicians friend link has a link to a video that shows a couple of different tones. If you were persistent, you might find something in there.
If you are a perfectionist and have the talent to copy Dimebag, then maybe the only thing that will make you happy is to copy his gear, including the amp.
