Re: "Tung-Sol" 6L6GC-STR Opinions, anyone?

OK, so it's not a real Tung-Sol, in fact I'm not sure the REAL Tung-Sol
even made a true 6L6. It's from New Sensor/Reflektor and has only been
out a month or so.

I just bought a couple of quads, but haven't yet given a true taste-test
(double-blind listening, yada yada), but these tubes LOOK better than
most Reflektor offerings. Rated at 500V/30W they're OK for more extreme
applications than the TS 5881 (22W/400V) and they're cheaper,
too....about the same price as the Sensor-Svetlana.

Nice looking, stout bottles (intermediate in height between the short
bottle 5881 and Reflektor's usual 6L6), solid insulators, dual
side-getters. No hint of rattle, either thunking it by hand next to my
ear, or in use. Sounds nice & full yet not loosey-goosey in the one amp
I tried it in this week, but like I said, I haven't gotten around to a
complete test in a variety of amps, comparing different tubes.
Naturally, I don't have any data on longevity, but by the looks of the
micas it may be a while before they become microphonic in service.

So, anybody have any relevant observations to add here?

(Rich...I already ***KNOW*** what you're gonna say, but go ahead and
say it anyway!!!!!!!!!!) :-)

Well, what's to say about transplanted trademarks on polished turds for marketplace recognition.

Why was such required in the first place?

The past quality and excellence in service life and performance not working well enough?

All it amounts to is a new *chewing gum* wrapper on a polished turd.

Which, to some, may imply the taste has been improved.

Nothing's changed.

Except maybe,... a bit of new visual snake oil on the same old shit, with the same old hot air.
