Anyone here familiar with Antek power transformers? These look like a lot
of bang for the buck. What's the catch?

I'm just blanching at the thought of actually buying new iron. Opinions
would be nice to have.

I'm thinking about the AN-1T250, two HT windings wired in series, it's
250-0-250 and more mA than I'd ever need for my project. It has plenty of
juice on the 6.3v winding, and I think I can use the 12.6v winding for the
bias supply. It says $33 shipped. It looks too good to be true.

(See my other threads...the project is a fixed bias Vibrochamp with 6AQ5
output tube.)

I've emailed them to ask if they will sell one unit. Haven't heard back
yet.

That might be an interesting deal...how much neg feedback volts do you
need? Less that 12v? Are those torrids used on ultralinear setups?
Read something a while back but do not remember where or exactly
what...J.P.

No, not NFB, bias supply. I think you are confusing the OT with the PT. I
need a PT. The tube calls for -12.5 on the grid. The tap is 12.6.
Rectified and with cap input, I'll have to knock it down some, but not
nearly as much as what I might take off the HT B+ supply. The cool thing is
that I could go either way. I got ants in my pants when they responded to
my email, so I placed an order. For that kind of money, I thought, why not?
The web site says it's for the guitar and audiophool amp market, so
intention is there. If I don't like it, I can fleebay it, probably for a
profit!

It's my good fortune that I built the bias supply circuit onto a turret
board, but something told me not to solder anything until I had the PT.
I'll be changing out several resistors because the original plan was to tap
the B+ supply.
