: The Dave Moore global climate prediction..!!

Yup. that's what I said.

: *The global climate will be fucked up within the next 30 yrs.*

Nope, I didn't make a presentation to congress,
I posted to AGA.

Didn't say you DID... said maybe "if it were" presented this way...

:
: I wonder when people think the global climate was 'perfect', or even
: "not fucked up"...

Who are you quoting with the "not fucked up"
in quotation marks?

I thought it wasn't "fucked up" the first
10 years I lived in New Orleans.

Sure... you thought, but in reality (according to global warming mavens), global warming has been going on for decades... so it WAS fucked up 10 yrs ago. In 1966 there were GLACIERS in the mountain passes and high elevations of Colorado (I used to ski on them in the summers). They dissappeared by 1972... global warming...???

Anyhow, this warming trend has been 'going on' for a long time... but you (like millions of others) seem to think everything was fine before when..???? Gores movie..??

The weather patterns were relatively
consistant during that period, and also not
inconsistant with how the old timers I know
in New Orleans have reported that the weather
was here since they were little children.

Geezuz..! ! "relatively consistant" according to YOU..???!?!?!
Well, how about THAT..! ! ! You need to do a little more research on "weather" in North America... even THIS year isn't the hottest, nor coldest on record...

But over the last 5 years, the weather
patterns have taken a real departure from the
patterns I first observed when I moved to
New Orleans.

WOW... so over 15 yrs, your casual observations have determined a major change in global climate... you ARE the man.

When I first moved to New Orleans
from California, I was very aware
of the weather patterns. Because the weather
in New Orleans was so different than the weather
in California, it really caused me to be fascinated
with the weather reports. I watched them religiously
for my entire residence in New Orleans, and I still
watch them religiously to this day now that I live
50 miles away in Mississippi.

Ain't that something..??? You move accross the continent from California to the Gulf of Mexico and you noticed a change in weather patterns... of course if you moved to say, Idaho, you'd notice another BIG change in weather again... but what would THAT prove..??

It'd prove that the weather is different in different locations.

When I first moved there, routinely there were these
tropical fronts that would develop off the coast in
the Gulf. Then they would train inland dumping rain
for sometimes days at a time. As a result, the vegetaion
down here was always green 365 days a year,
year after year going back as far as the old geezers
can remember and well beyond that going all the
way back to when the Spaniards occuppied New orleans
before the French. This dying grass phenomena that's
happening down here is something the like of which
noone has ever seen before.

You mean no one 'alive' that can remember.

Sure, the old geezers will tell you that
there were a few small droughts in the past, but nothing
to the extent of what we've had for the last 8 years.

Ummm... scientific alright.

IOW, you'd really have a hard time convincing any of the
old buggers down here that things aren't different.

That's new... old buggers everywhere are convinced that things are different today.. and they are. The old buggers are WAY older that's what is different.

They know better, cause they've lived it and historical
records bear it out. Even the most ardent disbelievers
down here are relatively quiet.
You can see they are really starting to think.

Uh-oh...

In the last few of months, an unprecedented amount
of destructive weather has hit this area.

Well, up here in the north-east, after a number of really bad years a few decades ago, nothing much in the way of 'destructive weather' has been happening... it's MUCH calmer now than back in the "old buggers" days...

But I guess the departure freom what people have seen
and come to expect from the weather because of it's
consistancy over the last several hundred years is
just all a big coincidence right?

Weather is weather... some weather patterns happen every 100 yrs or more... if you've ever owned a home in a 'flood plain' and paid attention to how the insurance is calculatted (that's for those who actually BUY flood insurance, AND care how it's calculated) the areas of flood are described in 100 and 500 yrs... (!!!!!)

Now... why would they choose 100 and 500 years...??!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/100-year_flood

HINT: the weather, and climate is pretty unpredictable...

Tell that to most of the old geezers around here that
are losing the wetlands and their heritage.
They really won't give a ***.

Tell the scientists that the wetlands are a forever changing environment/landscape, and what do they say...???

:
: And concerning the millions who will purportadly die from this looming
: catastrophe, hey... millions are dying RIGHT NOW from easily remedied
: catastrophies.... what is being done about it..???

Not much.

Instead of people getting off their arses and
doing something about any of those issues, instead
we have wankers whining and complaining in newsgroups
about the people that want to minimise our contribution to
global warming, go figger!

Agreed. Part of the 'human' existance and heritage on this planet is surviving large changes in global climate. Ice ages came and went, we're still here and thriving to the point of overpopulating the earth. Calamity is certain... global climate change is certain... with or without humans. What we DO about preparing to DEAL with the change, not "change the course of climate" is what is important.

IMMHO.. it's not that the global climate is getting warmer... it's what are we doing to 'prepare' for the warming..??? IMMHO, humans can not stop/change/etc the global climate trend(s)... we can only prepare for the consequences... Thus, all the yammering about CO2 and greenhouse gasses is like discussing the removal of kindling during the Great Fire in Chicago...

Same as is being
: done about global warming.... yak, yak, yak....
:
: NOTE: as far as "... never should'a happened.." maybe the industrial
: revolution "should'a never happened" nor the global population
: explosion.... nobody can/will control that either.

Wrong again, those are quite controllable.

So everyone thought... but, what happened...??? the population is growing steadily. Look into the 'problems' the Chinese sought to 'solve' with population control, and the unintended consequences that this 'control' has brought them.

As for whether people woulda or will,
guess you can have that one.

Everyone talks about ALL the *** we 'should do' and NOTHING happens.
Well, that isn't true actually... the US govt actually DOES a LOT to prepare for catastrophies. More than it ever has in the past. There was a time (not that long ago) that Federal intervention in storm damages etc wasn't considered a given. Now, it's almost a 'god given right' and national expectation that the Fed Govt respond to any catastrophe that people locally didn't prepare for or respond to...

Is a big earthquake coming to California...???? Yes. Are the people there prepared..?? No.

Are there hurricanes coming...??? yes. are there tornadoes coming...?? Yes. Are the rivers going to flood...?? yes. Are the forrest fires going to happen..??? yes. Are the droughts going to happen...?? yes.

These things have been happening for millenia....
