Re: They're springing up everywhere!

In your days at PV .. how amps did they make in a
week or month or year ? Manufacturing costs are
huge. Do they do any building at all or have they
off shored too in mud huts ?

U asked for it, and the med's are kicking in..

I was a newbie there, they ran runs of 100 units @ a time,
10 n check, 10 n check. Unit failed, stop everything.

I remember a stack of about 100 8-10 cabs full of speakers
that FELL down, and we pulled the spks out of them and dumped
the cabs. Word has it that JB n JA and a lady I forget's
name who did PCB proto runs (wore too much makeup) hand
painted EVH's cabs. I sold Dan in Canada & to the HRC,
EVH's stage 5150 amp. Wish I had it in the ebay days. New car..

In pure numbers, they were far more then I thought
back then..even now..could be sold. Peavey built
90%+ of what they sold. Tranz were the biggest out source.

Raw wood, making cabs. Metal bent to be painted. Then,
they shipped 70% in "PEAVEY" tractor trailers. "a"
st is now named something like Peavey Way. The 1st PV shop
is a corner hallway on Main St. HP has his own museum.

It's quite amazing. Staffed full time. Free to the public.

A friend of mine was friends with HP. They connected some how through RCA's SS division. He was one
of the first Peavey dealers in the state of NJ. It was a showcase of PV stuff. Outside of guitars
and accessories, the only brand of amplification they carried was PV only.

Boy, for a new boy on the block, they sure sold a ton of PV gear.

PV was given a bad rep by losers who had no clue, and the
very fact the 'PV' name could not (then) support a high tech
product ended my time in Meridian. It was pure BS, PV built
mixers of AWESOME quality, keyboards that boogied. Speakers
that are as good, nay better, then any now built clone. They built
it all (!!) within 21 buildings in MS alone. I know for fact, as
I have been inside them. Catalogs printed in house, in fact a whole
flocking building that does NOTHING else but store cats/schematics.

Best fuckin tech support team in the biz...

You got that right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Grant and Max were aces!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

..a camera that is 4 times my size..does the catalogs.. I'm 6'2"

When HP asked me (n payed for the move) to come there, it
was like going away to Havard or Yale. I was unable then to
make it work, and/or maybe the planets were not lined up right.

6 of 1, half doz.. Saw HP in NYC a while ago, he's just
a great guy, remembered me at once, still got his home PH#.

..and the Makrov 9x18 he sold me..

I cannot say enough about him. Those who know, understand.

My friend always spoke well of him. Never met him though.

For what it is worth .. A buddy has a 80's Bandit 2x12
SS beast ... and at times it sounds better than the Fender SF
next to it. PV must have sold millions of those for $200 ?

I was there 93-96

When JB, JA, HP, JackS had to decide what worked, and I was
just at the table, below the salt, the bottom line was:

"..it doesn't suck for the money.." (quote HP)

9% pure final profit was the key, we had a multi wheel thingie
(which I later sold on ebay, still got pix) that figured profit.

IF it was a good FUTURE item, 6%. EVH made more off his
amps then HP ever did. Stories to be told there. EVH designed
NOTHING, just approved what HP, JimD'C, and JB told him he liked.

FEW, if any, Peavey items sucked for the money. They give
folks rock n roll for low $$. PA systems that just baffled
folks (table mixers with big knobs),

LOL, I have one of those here in the bone yard waiting for me to put life back into it.

Those big wheelie knobs are a trip!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bass amps that KILLED,
and all for a fair price. Acoustic SWORE they would put HP
out of biz. HP came !*THIS*! close to buying Gibson. THINK !!

HP running Trace Elliot today solidifies a base in the UK
that Gibson couldn't make work..even with Orange AND T/E..

Yup..gotta go back soon. Far Away Places. Pete's comix.

HP called Meridian 'God's country'. It's close.

...ok..u still reading this..?

Here's a Meridian story ..believe it or who cares.

'Sparkey' still works at PV, he designed many, at the time ALL
of the PV power amps..nicknamed for the obv reasons. Good
player, fine lady at his side (Shelba, I believe) and a CLOSE friend.

We're driving in his car, some friend of his behind my shotgun
seat, banging my bald spot on my head. 1, 2, 3 times, it's funny.

20th it's getting to be a pain.

I ask this guy to stop, he does, and then does it again..

We're in some gas station, I decide to book. H/Hike back to Meridian.

I walk away. Sparkey looks at me like I'm insane. Here's why.

It's 9pm, we're over the AL border, and I'm a damn yankee with a big mouth..

I start walking. I walk n walk, got about 5 rides from people who told
me I was nuts, 2 drove me out of the way to protect my fat ass. 1 was
too creepy to describe, I needed to exit the van fast, case it went bad.

But best of all, right after the nut, I was walking and a doe came out
of the woods..walked with me, almost guiding me, for at least 3 miles,
slowing me up, nudging me along, till the MS police came by (as I was
over the border) and drove me home, n in no uncertain terms told me
how fucking stupid I was. Lights went on, doe nip'ed my wrist, and
went into the woods..slow, not afraid. Sitting in the car, I will
swear I saw her eyes watching me get the help she knew I needed.

Very cool!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Shawn later told me they thought I would be killed. I never thought
I would, although the 'nut' made me think twice..at least once more.

I am frolicsome, I am easy,
Good tempered and free,
And I don't give a single pin' me boys
What the world thinks of me.
