I am going to build my first amp starting next week and I was wondering
if anyone has advice on ways you can test your work as you go... not
waiting until the very end to see if you got it right. What would the
testing procedure be... say after every new piece you solder on?
1) Ensure you understand thoroughly the schematic and layout before you
start:
build it in your head first.
1) Sort and verify EVERY component in the kit against the kit Bill of
Material (BOM)
before you start.
2) Verify EVERY component against the noted schematic value, before you
install it. Use a multi-meter to check resistor values vs. the color
coding as some color coding can be mistaken (red may look orange, or
v.v). Oh yeah----have a reliable multi-meter.
3) Use colored marker to mark each component on the schematic AND
layout diagram as you install it. Try to install components on the
board(s) per the schematic following the signal path through the
amp...don't just work left to right, or v.v, per the physical layout
description.
4) Verify good turret/eyelet/pin connectivity (solder joints) between
connected components and wiring before going on to the next. Use your
multi-meter to check for 0-ohms across turret/eyelet/pin connections.
You might even mark each turred/eyelet with a colored marker (red or
green) to indicate it has been checked and verified.
5) Read the info here: http://www.paulrubyamps.com/info.html
