Electrically, it doesn't matter, but for safety's sake, it does make a
difference how you wire it. In general, you want the fuse holder not
to
shock the user if the user/bozo removes the fuse while it's plugged in.
For those holders with caps which grab the fuse tightly such that the
fuse is removed when you remove the cap, you want the END of the fuse
holder to be the one which is connected to the line side. That way,
the
metal around the perimeter near the open end won't be energized.
For those holders where the fuse tends to stay in the body after
removing the cap (a minority of contemporary ones), the opposite is
true; you want the ring to be connected to the supply and the end of
the
fuse holder to be connected to the load side.

Ouch! That's quite an important lesson. Thanks and sorry to the OP for
the
bad advice.
Phil
Don't take it too hard. It's a much-overlooked point. Almost
nit-picking. It would take a real bozo to try sticking his finger into
the fuse holder!

Nahhh...Mike, as you know, the devil is in the details. Just because it
works right, doesn't mean it was done right. I think you offered an
important but often overlooked lesson. You also have a way of saying it
that doesn't offend, which is a fine human quality to have.

Phil
