Can someone tell me what is the function of the 1 meg resistor that goes
from the input (pin 7) of the 12AX7 at the input of the Silvertone 1484
to the tone circuit side of the .02uf coupling capacitor? This is not the
1 meg resistor that goes from the 68K resistors to ground. This is
present only on channel 1 and not on channel 2. There is no similar
resistor in Fender circuits. I assume that it is some type of feeback
circuit. I also note that I have more noise on this channel and wonder if
the two are related. There is some DC on the VC side of the coupling
capacitor which I assume means that it is leaky but would appreciate some
input on these questions before I go to the trouble of replacing the cap.
My interest is more in an optimally function circuit than attempts to keep
it original. Should this 1 meg resistor be eliminated? Thanks for any
help you can give.
Yes, it's negative feedback. Leave it in the circuit. Replace the .02 uf
cap. There should be 0 vdc on the vc (volume control) side of this cap.
