Ok, so why are we fighting this war?
Oh, I remember. Weapons of mass destruction. But there aren't any. So
isn't our job done? Declare a victory and get out?
Nah, WMA was a palatable excuse. The Saudi's proved to be NO freind of the USA (See 9/11/01), and given strategic dependence on oil from the
region, the USA needed an operational power base as well as the excuse
to put the fear of Allah into the region.
Now, the nation is mired in a slow boiling Create-O-Zone of terrorist
horror, a civil war, a world pulling out to leave the USA wallowing
in a mess it lied to the U.N. over.
Normal Ans: Yes, declare victory and pull out.
Real truth: The casualty rate is hardly a Vietnam. Therefore, although
grumbling, no taken-seriously anti-war movement has been able to gain
traction. This keeps the D.o.D. and offense industry happy, because
projects continue to get funded and babtism-by-fire combat training
continues to keep the armed forces sharp and combat experienced.
Conclusion: There's no rush to end it or internal force loud enough to
force an ending. The next al Queda move on US soil will cement U.S.
domestic antipathy towards the whole vomitous waste. Billy Bob will
fly the U.S. flag on his pickup by the millions. The "Patriot Act"
will tighten.
Welcome to the 21st Century.
