Re: IT Trannies in Guitar Amps?

Big, big snippage.... phew!

Ok Rich, but knowledge is power. Education is what AGA is primarily engaged in,
otherwise guys like you and me would not be here... cos it certainly don't pay
the bills, chum. And I'm definitely not here to fight, troll or proffer political views. I steer well away from those time wasters.

Good talking with you. :-)

Likewise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wow Rich... that was a blast of a post and I appreciate your time to respond.

Getting used to your terminology a little better, I have come to the
conclusion that we are basically similar animals. I am, at the grand age of 59 on
Jan 22nd, from the old school of engineering and formally trained too. The main
difference between us is, that I moved onto SS design back in early 1980. That's not
up or down... just a sideways move.

Not so differently to you, my background is military electronics, servicing amps and
design of commercial products since 1978. Design has been mainly for my own range,
but some have appeared under the Morley brand in USA during the mid 1990's onward.
My solid state amps 'SESSION' were a big hit during the 1980s and were *heavily*
cloned by the big names. In fact Peavey registered the name SESSION in USA during
1986... I wonder why? However, I have recently supplied Peavey with passive electronic
tone modules for some of their guitars.

As you can see, I'm not a big activist in the 'valve amp' scene any more, so the
experiences you've had with the 'polished turds' has passed me by somewhat, but I do
understand what you say and can see it clearly happening. I declined to be the *first*
Groove Chooobs UK distributor in 1982 for that very reason. Plus, I could not work
with a guy that you either listen to or argue with! A financial mistake, but a moral
victory.

We certainly have different life experiences and that will cause us to have different
view points. Neither are wrong, just different based on separate parameters. But
those differences should never be a reason to fight... as I see many others doing on
NGs. I am *always* willing to listen and be polite if anyone else is. If anyone is
rude or uses foul language to me... then I will just ignore the post.

Now, both of us have better things to do, I know. So I'll just say that I
wholeheartedly agree, understanding your drift better now, with most of what you say.

I'm totally the wrong person to get involved in mojo. Like you, I spend my life
dispelling 'guitarist's camp fire folklore!' AND, making myself thoroughly unpopular
by doing so! Recognise that feeling Rich? It's called being honest and straight.
An old fashioned virtue, but, at least we can sleep at night!

As a designer I'm probably exposed to this more than you are, so I will stick to my
guns regarding F & M and repeat: "E.G. the endless requests for amps that sound
"...the way it does when on full throttle, but a low volume." Explaining it,
hopefully, brings nearer the time when I won't EVER be asked it YET again!!!" Like
you with your 'polished turds', it's ONE of MY hobby-horses. ;-)

Hey, I'm not here to strut my stuff... just to learn and give where appropriate. And
maybe, discuss different ideas and theories with like minded folk who are also
interested in continuing to learn until the Grim Reaper shows up! Between us, we can
bring change and educate! I *know* that's the real reason you donate what is the
most valuable commodity you can give - your time. A piece of your life.

I enjoyed listening to your views showing great principles (polished turds, etc.)...
good on ya chum! :-)
