Oooooh boy...
The police action in Iraq is something that so few can understand.
Well... given the significance of what happened some 42 years ago
today, perhaps it is time I helped y'all to figure it out.
The key to understanding it requires that we all put aside our
pre-conceived ideas, political leanings, and in general ignore the
media.
The TV set or other media outlets aren't going to tell you the real
deal, because truth isn't something they can milk and/or stir the pot
with and make money. See, that's the goal of the media and Michael
Moore: to make money. They are not the saviors of the Common Man
(tm). I don't care if they are liberal, conservative, communist, or
any other label you want to stick on them.
Many folks here are probably too young to remember the late Erma
Bombeck. She was a humorist who used to take a half-truth or truth,
and stretch it just enough to keep it semi-believable, and by
illuminating the absurdities make it absolutely hilarious. Take away
the humor aspect of her writing, and you have most of the formula the
media pundits are using today. What they do is take a truth or
semi-truth, stretch it just enough to make the target audience yell
"right on!", and (this is the genius of it) outrage just enough of the
mindless idiots outside the target audience to be totally freaked out
by it, scream and yell about it, and keep listening for the next
"outrageous" statement. The True Believers (tm) will repeat the
opinions you thoughtfully fabricated for them as if they were their
own. With a little luck, a media pundit can expand their audience to
include those directly opposed to their target audience, increase
their market share... and get rich in the process.
Now, if you're an outsider to the business, and you want to get in on
the cash, you have to get noticed as an outsider first. After that,
you get yourself noticed as a real obnoxious loudmouth outsider. Stir
the pot enough, and with a little luck you can get on the inside game
as an "outsider". You're an advocate of some kind, a Voice of the
People (tm), or some other label that suits the role you intend play.
You aren't really any better than the "establishment"; you just keep
it simple, keep it one-dimensional so the lowest common denominator
can understand it, and stir the pot while the money starts rolling in.
Overall, this aspect isn't too different from a pro wrestling grudge
match in that it's an act to make the whole show more entertaining.
The key to making money as a pundit or advocate is to keep all the
arguments one-dimensional, the responses reactionary, and the
"solutions" just as ideologically (and many times just as absurdly)
one dimensional mixed with lots of emotions. You make careful note of
the facts that support your position and ignore or blow off the ones
that don't. It's an edited-for-broadcast version of what your
working-class parents and their friends used to do when they got
together for coffee and discussed "what's wrong with this world" and
came up with ludicrous solutions to fix it. In fact, that's the
market for those media types. Do you honestly think that people in
the upper 2% of the income bracket listen to that crap? Heck, THEY
are the ones making money off it, regardless of the audience being
catered to!!
Does any of the above hit home and ring any bells yet? If it does,
now you know why the media in all its forms and "alternatives" can't
be trusted. Not even Michael Moore. (am I the only person who
noticed he is wearing expensive tailored suits nowadays, even if he
adds his obligatory baseball cap to it?)
Ok... so let's assume now we have figured out that nobody can be
trusted to do your thinking for you. That goes against the grain of
everything you were ever taught in the public schools, but after the
last 40 years of listening to the nightly news and chasing your tail,
you finally have realized that was the goal all along: keep you,
mister average guy, running in circles by reacting rather than
thinking, fighting amongst yourselves, and in general participating in
the circle jerk that keeps politicians in power. (and the liberals
want you to disarm yourselves with people like that in power for the
Greater Good (tm) !! DUH!! )
So, back to the police action in Iraq. (and I'll assume that most
folks here are observant enough to know that the official "war" that
both sides of the fence voted on starting really ended some time ago.)
To figure out how we really got where we are now, you have to look at
the whole picture.
China is industrializing. Despite the political turmoil that has
historically existed in that country from day #1, all sides involved
have known for the last 50-plus years that in order to live the good
life they are going to have to put aside a lot of differences, work
together, and start making things happen. Ignorant farmers turned
political dictators aren't going to accomplish anything other than
consolidating their own power & making life miserable for everyone
else. That means ditching those bozos and starting a massive build-up
of industry, infrastructure, education that is actually worth
something, and plenty of engineers. To make all these things happen,
you need raw materials. (It's tough to embark on an expansionist
policy without them... remember why Japan attacked Pearl Harbor?)
Number one on the list is energy. Once they get that and shift into
high gear, history has shown us that like others who have
industrialized, they will experience a population explosion. Speaking
of blow jobs, what do you think they will use that excess population
for? Hint: it won't be for goodwill ambassadors!
China has plenty of money thanks to what was once an uneasy
relationship between them and a place called Hong Kong. The Brits
handed that over to them some time ago. Among the first things they
started doing was buying our factories, shipping companies, etc. some
20 years ago and establishing them on their home turf. Next, they
start loaning huge amounts of money to fuel US deficit spending the
likes of which we have never seen before. That took down the trade
barriers, and allowed them to loan us the money we sent them for cheap
junk. Unlike our country where we live from one election (or one
quarter if you're a corporation) to the next, China thinks in terms of
100-250 years or so.
Now we all know what we think of stuff made in China... cheap junk
that falls apart. Anybody here old enough to remember when "Made in
Japan" was a joke? How long do you think China will keep selling
cheesy crap? Anyone notice that a Mercedes is now made in China?
Truth is that China is getting their start (and man, it is one helluva
start) with all that cheap junk to destroy our competing industries,
gain market penetration (via contributing to politicos here so they
can sell us out with legislation like NAFTA) and in general squeeze
our balls. (Maybe the huge loans will ultimately make them our
partners, and then again maybe they will call the loans in an effort
to bring down what remains of our economy and write off the losses to
the costs of an economic war... too early to tell at this point.)
Now I'll pose a question: if nobody was in Iraq right now, what are
the odds that China might decide to waltz in there and control those
oil spigots? If I were China, I'd kick my feet up at the royal palace
and start slowly closing those spigots to the USA... and slooowly let
the price of oil rise, all while stealing a good portion of the
product for myself. What would happen to the US economy if gas hit
first $5/gal, then $10/gal... maybe over the course of 6 months to a
year?
Now who would you rather have in Iraq: the USA or the Chinese? Is
the current state of affairs making any sense now?? Was that scraggly
bearded *** really a threat to us? Doubtful, but he was a good
enough excuse & we kept him around long enough for when we needed him.
Purpose served, case closed. Now that his own people have him, they
can hook his nuts to a field telephone and wire him for sound. And
don't think for a minute that they won't.
George W may not be the brightest star in the sky, but he's not the
complete idiot that Moore and his followers would lead you to believe.
Fact is that you don't hand a complete meatball an Air National Guard
F-102 and expect him to survive his own stupidity. (Century-series
fighters have one common characteristic to nearly all of them: they
are unforgiving to pilot error since they don't have sophisticated
computers to prevent mistakes.) Big oil may want higher prices, but
they really don't want to be cut out of business by having their raw
materials flow shut off.
I figure that within the next 15-20 years, we will be at war with
China. It's a war we can't win the way things are now. (Heck, the
average guy today can't handle the recoil of an M-16, which is little
better than a pest gun!) If we prepare and stop the bull***, it
might not happen 'cause the Chinese don't get involved in wars they
can't win... unlike the USA did first with Korea and then Vietnam.
Follow the money, gang. It HASN'T been about Truth, Justice, and the
American Way (tm) since the end of WW2. Eisenhower tried to warn you.
If LBJ, Nixon, and Clinton didn't wake you up to this, you're so dense
that there's no hope. The real enemy is our own laziness that
continues to lower standards and allow things like this to happen.
And Jesusmotherfriggin'christmas TURN OFF THE DAMN TV SET!!!
