Looking for thoughts on the current line of Marshall Combos. This amp

would be

used for a variety of desired tones (Dave Navarro, Zakk Wylde, some Jimmy

Page,

some Randy Rhoads, etc), so versatility is important. I don't need
anything overly
powerful. 60W and under would be fine.

I have the 4104 model of that same circuit (2x12, 50w). I wouldn't trade this amp for anything. If you look around, and are diligint, you may find one for less than what this one is going for now. I got mine for $500.00 about four years ago, and they were going for anywheres up to $ 800.00 then.

I don't recomend any of the newer Marshall amps (sorry Jim). For what they go for, and what they offer, you're better off hunting for an older 800 in great shape. The 900s can be had for cheap. They aren't all that highly recommended, but I've played a couple that sounded fine. I just would back off the gain some, and get an almost 800 sound out of them.

I--personally---go by sound. I try not to delve into snobbery, and era bashing/deifying. Still, I do have a vertical input 4104 ;=)

good luck searching....

Have you played your amp into a 4x12, and can you comment on the difference in tone? NOT a troll, I'd like an owner's opinion. Admittedly, I prefer 4x12, but I'm also using a HTF vintage Hiwatt/Fanes, so I'm not comparing like drivers.
