Yes I have, and there is a big difference in sound. The obvious being the
more defined low end in the cabinet (4x12 Marshall, and 4x12 Flag systems),
and the more linear sound. But I like the sound of the open back cabinet. I
tend to play "classic" rock sounding stuff, or even cleaner than that, and
outside of the occasional Ramones stuff, steer clear from too much preamp
distortion. I set my amp up pretty loud (with the power tubes taking the
brunt) and adjust the volume on the axe, plus have a boss SD-1 overdrive
that compliments that amp, and my axes, perfectly.

Not that the 4104 doesn't sound great in that vein. In fact, it fucking
rocks through a 4x12, but I like the disperse sound of the open back. My
speakers are the G12-65 Celestions. I've found that if I tailor my sound to
the upper mids and highs, the sound overall (in a band) is much tighter. I
don't want to compete with the bass in the 80 hz range. Not live anyway.

To the origianl poster...I have "never" had a complaint about the tone of my
Marshall. It's "exactly" what I was looking for in a live amp, and it
delivers in spades. Some dudes are amazed that there isn't anything more in
my signal chain. To me...that's the secret. Get a great sounding amp, a
great sounding guitar, and let your fingers do the talking...so to speak ;=)
