After getting the inputs worked out, I've found that this amp seems to have most of the volume control between 0 and 1, then it seem to just be gain after that. Would it seem that this is normal, do I need to go back through the input, and control sections again? Or could the "Alpha" 1 meg pots be just crap, and I should replace with something better.. I know it was hell to get solder to stick to the back, to ground them like pots in a guitar. I can bring the loudness down with the guitar volume knob. Also after having face planting the American Lone Star strat (in burnt Sienna burst flametop), I found this amp really does like the Les Paul as well. It does not like the double Cutaway Les Paul at all. The 500T, and 496R pickups are just to hot, but that's true for most. However, with some seriuos tweeking it loves the Ibanez SZ320 with the Zakk Wylde EMG setup... Go Figure..
Yes, it's been a *** week. First I drop the Strat, and need to take it in for repairs, then I lay my motorcycle down Saturday (luckily in the gravel, and at low speed. About less thab 30 mph), and my son's Peewee (5th and 6th grade, he's in 6th) football team all but puts themslves out of the chance to play in the Southern division Superbowl. That's all of southern Arkansas. Basically from about 40 miles south of Little rock down. This is something they won last year. They only had one team score on them all year last year and that was a safety, so they really score on themselves. This year they have 1 loss, and saturday they tied. Both of those I acredit to the coaches. the loss they had 22 seconds left in the redzone, up by two pionts, and the coach calls a timeout. The other team wound up running it back for a touchdown as the buzzer went off. This time they started the second team, that didn't help the first team motivation, then the first team had to dig them out of a 2 touchdown hole. then the coach tells the QB to knee when tied and 22 seconds left. The QB is a 6th grade who can throw accurately to about 30 yards, and my I practice my kid to adjust 3 to 5 yards and he has only missed one catch all year. He also runs faster than any kid on the team, anout a 9 - 10 second 100 yard dash. I think that they should have atleast tried it. Anyway sorry for the rant...
So, get some better quality puts? or go through the input section, or both.... Or this amp just is like that?
Thanks in advance..

While going through the 59 tweed deluxe project this weekend I noticed that there were some diffent pinouts between the Hoffman amps kit instructions, and the fender layout, while the schematics look very identical. Basically that would be the differnce between the two. I being ne who never does anything the easy, and usually the right way, just used Hoffman Amp's layout as a reference tool. Now, I'm confused which way to go.
Below is the the two differnet layouts and the origional schematic:

THanks for any help.

Hi Swack Daddy, Are The Alpha pots audio/log taper? What kind of input tube do use at the moment? AX, AT, AY or 5751?

regards

Jochen

I'm unsure they can with the kit... I'm sure they are the cheapest available... the input/preamp is a 12ay7, the PI or second tube is a 12ax7.... I find I like it best just as the origonal was setup...

What are the best control pots to have in there? I believe I have a couple Audio Tapers that I bought from Bruce when I was doing the CrackWHore for the first time. I could replace what is in there for the good quality audio tapers... and see what happens...Yes/NO.... anybody?
