Hi! .....19 years ago my wife was pregnant with our second child.
During the pregnancy she became ill with viral meningitis. We had no
insurance. (the pregnancy with our first-born was) It was pretty costly, we
were bounced from specialist to specialist throughout the pregnancy. I had
to negotiate a payment plan for all who cared for her, fortunately, all the
high-ticket doctors accepted a long term monthly pittance($25 ea.) as
payment.
The hospital bill for the delivery/recovery room and approx. 18hrs.
of time at their facility came to just under $6k, add to that all the
doctors charges, it hit us hard. It took us 17 years of payments to pay just
for her birth. All debts were paid in full except for the ob/gyn who moved
to Louisiana and vanished around the 10 year mark.
Most were patient and considerate of our plight, the hospital was the
worst. They tried every trick to void our payment contract which they agreed
to. Ultimately, they "sold" the debt/contract to a collection agency that
was really aggressive. I had to get legal help to threaten "breech of
contract" to force them to abide to the terms of payment within the
agreement they "bought".(I never missed a payment)......As of two years ago,
she's finally paid off 8>) My home was paid off before my daughter was!
Cheers,
robert
