I have two nearly identical images. The larger one is black and

smaller image and the detail of the black and white image.
Any ideas as to how I might go about doing this?
Okay, I'm assuming there's a good reason why you can't just convert
the colour image to BW.
Because that is obviously not what the OP wants to do. He wants to
use the *color* of one image, and the *luminosity* of the other.
Perhaps because the black & white image shows more detail and
sharpness than the color version, so he wants to get 'the best of
both' by combining them.
The bit where I said "I'm assuming there's a good reason why you
can't just convert the colour image to BW" wasn't a criticism of the
OP. Why would you think it was? And why would you think it implies
I'm unaware of the various reasons for doing this sort of thing?
appeared to bear no relationship to the initial question (or any
solution thereof), it had me wondering too.
I can assure everyone that it wasn't my intention to mislead.
I included that opening statement because another poster had replied to the
OP with a statement telling him to simply convert the colour image to a BW
one.
I assumed that this wasn't what the OP wanted, as he wouldn't have asked the
question if that was the case, and my opening sentence was intended to
reflect that.
Apparently it wasn't picked up that way. I apologise to the OP, and to
everyone who was offended by my opening sentence.
