I feel your pain ...
I am on the dole as well, (NSC VA Disability Pension), and have
been since I figured out how to be recognized by the SSI folks,
and, in turn by the Veteran Services folks.
I did a short dance with the SSI folks and I offer you my condolences
relating to the patterns they make you dance to deal with them.

I'm grateful I qualify for the VA pension ... it frees me from the SS
drama other than renewing stamps and reapplying for Medicaid
whenever they cut me off due to inactivity and that is a drawn out
procedure beginning with overcoming my inborn procrastination
toward dealing with govt paperwork.

IMHO:
Each individual govt program can prove to be a fickle drama queen.
Any combination of them is a proven circus scene.

After rent and the vet for my sidekick, I am grateful the VA Hospital
System
covers my meds, docs, labs, and PT, (such as it is). I manage to keep
a roof
over my head, fuel in my 'go-cart,' and food in the pantry,etc.

The kindness of friends have provided low-cost housing for me since
my
negative interaction with a NM 2-lane road, 06/26/09. It is often by
their
donations of additional necessaries I have covered most of those
needs
not recognized by the govt.

I would like to think each of us would be capable of arranging for our
personal
basic medical survival and housing when we need it.
Recent reality checks have forbidden me the luxury of that fantasy.

You are in my prayers ...
I will share your situation with folks I know who choose not to
interact with,
or through,  the 'web.' A preference I once shared before being 'force-
fed' tech
during my recent 9 yrs spent in academia, ('98-'07).
