Is Obama Our Nixon and Fox News Our New York Times?

Is Barack Obama this generation's disgraced Orange County favorite son
Richard Nixon?

And does that make Fox News the Dick-era equivalent of the Pentagon
Papers-publishing New York Times?

Well, Bebe Rebozo, see if you can follow the bouncing twisted-logic
ball . . .
One could argue that it was downright Obamian of Nixon to: impose wage
and price controls; index Social Security for inflation; create
Supplemental Security Income; form the Environmental Protection
Agency; establish the Occupational Safety and Health Administration;
promote the Legacy of parks program; implement the first significant
federal affirmative action program; improve salaries for federal
workers; lower the maximum U.S. speed limit to 55 miles per hour to
conserve gasoline during an energy crisis; create the Office of
Minority Business Enterprise; and, most especially, introduce the
Comprehensive Health Insurance Acted that would have mandated
employers to purchase health insurance for their employees and
provided a federal health plan like Medicaid that any American could
join by paying on a sliding scale based on income.

Or should that be it's Nixonian of Obama to do the socialist things
he's up to?

The Nixon-Obama comparisons began with Sunday's chat shows. Actually,
they started
before The Chosen One was elected, kicked into high gear after he took
office and have been sprinkling into the informed public's
consciousness each time Obama has shook a dictator's hand, considered
education policy or faced any other quagmire Dick met head on.

No, the Obama-is-Nixon distinction being made now concerns the
misdeeds, paranoia and divisiveness swirling in and around the White
House of the first half of the 1970s and, supposedly, since this past
January's Inauguration Day.

White House Communication Director Anita Dunn said Sunday that Fox
News is "a wing of the Republican Party" based on the fair-and-
balanced network's Obama coverage. Fox's corporate reaction to the
surprising Obama administration charge came from Senior Vice President
Michael Clemente, who said, "It's astounding the White House cannot
distinguish between news and opinion programming. It seems self-
serving on their part."

Then something amazing happened during what Fox News had billed as
news and not opinion on Monday: Correspondent James Rosen said, "This
order to freeze out a leading news organization is similar to those
President Nixon infamously directed at the New York Times." He was
referring to the Nixon White House in 1971 attempting to stop the
Times from publishing the bleak assement of the Vietnam War known as
the Pentagon Papers, which military analyst Daniel Ellsberg had leaked
to the Gray Lady.

Never mind that had Fox News been in existence during the Nixon
presidency, that day's Bill O'Reillys, Sean Hannitys and Glenn Becks
would have demanded the lynching of Ellsberg. Nixon's Enemies List
would become the network's talking point memo. Bombing Cambodia,
usurping the Constitution and breaking into the Watergate Hotel would
have been trivialized just like bombing Iraq, usurping the
Constitution and outing Valerie Plame were by Fox News during the last

If you buy the Obama-Nixon/Fox News-New York Times comparisions, what
does that make the tea-bag protesters? The damn, dirty hippies who
marched in the streets to demand the end of the Vietnam War? They
could easily shorten the famous chant to, "Hell no, we won't."

So, when the hell will we see the rise of Obama's Silent Majority?
