we have an area called favela, you can't even see it unless you go to
a cliff and look off over the shacks people have built to live in on
the side of a hill. no electric, no water, no sewers, no trash
collection. its a wonder how they live, but they do, many visit the
clinic and of course we do have a free food box which is filled every
morning, and always empty every time by noon. where else they get food
is beyond me. the walk down the side of a cliff on a stone walk is
dangerous for sure, similar to the one for the beach drum circles in
san diego, and from what i hear you don't walk in there at night, i
can imagine why. mike

Yep. Like 60 miles south of here, they live in cardboard and corrugated
metal (whatever's available) shacks. 131 bodies found since January 1,
and
at least seven of those last week - folks who crossed the line looking
for
a
better life. Last night they found 97 people stuffed into a refrigerated
truck, along with some unsecured pallets of mangos. Temperature was 34
degrees in that dark ride. At least two were very pregnant; 14 of them
between 12 and 17 years old. Each had paid $1000-$3000 for a ride to
Phoenix. Good thing they caught them, though; probably would have come
to
a
bad end. There are tons of accidents with vehicles full of smuggled
folks;
lots of deaths that way, too. Often the driver gets away. The poorest in
our country really have no idea that they live very well compared to
poor
elsewhere. It's all relative.
34 degrees sounds pretty nice about now...

It's all relative. I imagine our 100+ degree heat felt pretty good after
they stepped out. Hey, whatever happened with your upside-down tomato
plant?- Hide quoted text -

yeah and before i left you were working on a water system yourself,
how did it turn out for you? mike

It worked just like I planned. I set the timer to run the drip for one hour
at 8am and one hour at 8pm. Plants were fine. However, this extended
above-average weather has really done a number on them now. I'm thinking of
"letting them go" and just preparing for the winter garden.
