The biggest obstacle to the success of such a facility, as I see it,
is location.  While Miranda may be in Santa Cruz and would like to
stay in CA, another may be in say CO and would like to stay there.  I
know I wouldn’t want to change doctors even though I’m not that big on
Redding, CA which came about more of happenstance than anything else.
Then there is the issue of SSI payments (SSDI or other) and medical
care changing from one location to another; all this is based on the
cost of living in the area with which one resides and the States
amount of assistance.  Add to that if one should make the change and
find they’re no better off, you may not be able to get back to that
which you had.  All said though, I’m please to see there is a
discussion on the topic as I’m getting there myself.  Would this be
something I’d be interested in?  Not sure, though I’m always willing
to help the family when ever I can.

Fictitious scenario

I want to be able to live as part of as community in AZ when it's cold
and in Colorado when it's warmer.

In Az there's a co-op housing in Phoenix based on art - 19 people
lease two large houses and have studio work spaces.

In CO there's a small organic farm in a small rural setting - 8 people
live there year round and others come and go.

I qualify for Fed or State programs that give me a monthly check (SSI/
SSDI/State supplement). I need assistance with shopping and
housekeeping and get a Home Care Allowance, or VA, or .. to pay for
the help. I hire one of the people living in my intnentional
community (AZ or CO), I get an additional check so\ince I need some
non-skilled personal care - and contract a personal care provider - I
hire one of the members of the community who has been through the 40hr
certification progam. I need to go to the Doctors 2x a month - I hire
one of the members of the intentional coimmunity. I get
Food Stamps. I get Low Energy Assistance Stipend.

The benefits are different in each state but not that different. I
get a community to interact and be included in and I get the
assistance I need. The community gets my energy and has some
additional income. I'm paying some rent, my share of food and
utilities, hiring 1 memvber for some housecleaning and shopping,
paying another member to help with baths 2xweek, paying another for
rides to Doctors, and ....

Nothing's ever easy but this isn't that hard to envision. And folk get
to be Home
