Mandatory evacuation order given for July 7 fire



This is to confirm what Crista wrote above. if the Forest Service
stated that there was "no mandatory evacuation order", that is false.
I was personally transmitting on a relay radio from a hilltop above
the fire. Raven and I witnessed the early onset of the fire before any
emergency vehicles arrived.

We used a radio to relay to other folks throughout the gathering.
During our transmissions to rainbow family folks who were forming
bucket brigades to put out hot spots being created by the fire and
pulling kitchen water lines to increase water pressure closer to the
source of the fire to protect the camps, Incident Commander Gene
Smithson and his assistant James Alford came on the radio to tell us
that any one with a bucket of water attempting to get near the fire or
any hot spots would be interfering and would be tasered and/or
arrested. He also noted that it was a mandatory evacuation. I told
Gene Smithson that if you want to issue a mandatory evacuation order,
"get on this radio and issue the evacuation order." There was a woman
stating to folks that it was a mandatory evacuation, whose voice I did
not recognize. That is why I questioned the order.

Gene Smithson, Forest Service Incident Commander, came onto the radio
on our Shanti Sena Channel 4 and announced, "This is Gene Smithson,
Incident Commander. This is a mandatory evacuation order to save
lives."

The truth is always better than lies. The truth shall set you free. Be
honest, at least, even if your words aren't exactly one hundred
percent verbatim, let the message be as clear as possible.

Folks were being threatened with arrest and/or tasering if they tried
to help put out the fire.

Folks were being ordered by the Forest Service to evacuate the area.
