In Holland, where there's a museum for everything, there's a torture
museum with actual devices used in the inquisition along with drawings
depicting how and when they were used. One that is is similar to
waterboarding was a tilt table, the victim was strapped to, and forced
with a funnel to swallow an enormous quantity of water until their
stomach was distended. Then the table would be tilted head down so the
weight of the water would press against all the organs, bringing them
to near death. Then the table could be tilted the other way to revive
the victim, to be repeated over and over. This was on the mild side
of some of the items on display. Mind you, these were actual
artifacts, presumably found at church rumage sales in Spain.
