Understood. I guess I'm a little sensitive because people who do NOT have
memory problems have, throughout the years, mistaken me variously for
Martha Gail and for Jane. It mystifies me, and of course I like to think
I'm not as nuts as either one of them, but that is clearly a delusion ...

Once the guy stepped out of the van and tried to run, Jeff clearly had no
choice but to put him in "protective custody."

Bull, I was on that end of the van

Jeff grabbed him and fended off about a dozen people who wanted to thump
him. From my perspective, he and Christian may have saved the guy's life,
although it certainly did look as though they were part of the problem,
unless you observed their actions closely.

I had the situation under control and Jeff came in and grabbed the
fellow claiming he had done something he had not ...he wanted to hurt
the fellow ... Jeff is always BIGGER when he has an 'audience.'

I asked him to wait for the MAN ....

They both command enough respect that the guys going apeshit were not
going to hurt them, nor remove the guy in question from their custody.

Aw Bull, I was at the front door of the van and was helping him and
his passengers get out of the van and away from the breaking glass
showering them.

Jeff coming in AFTER the fact was unnecessary and HIS playing
hero was much like his trying to steal the thunder ... play the hero
after the situation was almost already under control ...
The fellow was innocent as facts have since proved ...

I have to disagree with your assessment here ...
The innocent already had friends on the way in from bus-village
and NO ONE messes with the older sand-tramps and Native bros.
And the fellow Jeff was manhandling was a Native elder bro.

After Jeff came, it would have been a bigger hassle than it was
worth to separate him from the fellows throat than it was worth
and the cops were almost there anyway ...
Reminded me of his claiming the fact that he, not Tools and I, dealt
with the Ithaca fiasco of several years ago.

Me, too. Ruthie later asked me if I wan't scared. I was, but not for
myself.

I was more pissed off at Jeff and his EGO and the young thugs
than scared initially, I didn't feel any 'shaking' until later when
Whistler asked me "Are you nutz?" or something similar ...

For some reason, people don't want to hurt me. Maybe I remind them of
their grandmother.

The word got around, grin ...

When I was young and thin and cute, they didn't want to hurt me for other
reasons.

I dunno, maybe I was raised different or have some problems dealing
with rejection, but I always knew you to possess an aura of power ...

Whatever, I jump in and it seems to work out. I wish more sisters realized
how much personal power they have to de-escalate situations like that.
Gotta have the brothers present to back them up, though.

I wish A-camp as a whole would re-develop the ethic that violence is not
the answer at gatherings. Used to be that they kept each other pretty much
in check with occasional appropriate and measured responses to those among
them getting out of line. We are all Shanti Sena, including them. Some of
our strongest Shanti Sena folks have come out of that energy: the outlaw
mentality, heavy drinkers, but with absolute love and loyalty for the
family at large, and respect for the peaceful intent that created the
gathering. Many of them still have it, lots of the old timers do. We've
lost so many, though. I really miss Kegger and Dusty.

yeh ... Ol' Rowdy Yates or Taco Mike would have been great ...
Crazy John before he got Buffaloed, or even Plunker joshing folks ...
A young Frenchy or Badjer would have been helpful as well ...
(Hell, the older versions would have been helpful, grin)

The question is always: how do we pass on our values and customs to the
kidz and the newbies, regardless of the substances they use and regardless
of the rage they carry with them out of Babylon? It seems to be more of a
problem at some of the eastern and southern gatherings. I have no idea
what that's about.

I dunno, the THUG mentality came in and doesn't seem to want to go.
The older fellows had a different set of values ...
The younger, among them, Jeff ... seem to believe their own hype.
A camp was something different back in the day ... coupled with
Hobo Hilton, it provided a service not seen in the last few.

I won't even go into how the parking-lot crew, walking medics,
walking fire-watch, walking shanti-sena, walking hug patrol,
walking flea-watchers, doggie camp, and a couple of other things
as simple as handing out ropes for stray dogs - or tying them up,
providing them a bucket of water and giving their human
companions the 'eye.'

I miss WalkingMan ...

So many folks have either passed or just don't come anymore ...
I haven't come to Natl that much over the past few years
either so I can't complain ... having medical, scholastic, medical,
and financial issues of my own ...

But one would hope that lessons learned at regionals would have
been passed on ...

Apathy, avoidance, and denial empowers those who would
abuse in the Rainbow Nations just as it is in the larger realms
without ...

I could name several who keep rocksalt in their rigs and
camps maintaining an unseen fence to keep the bozos
and thugs at bay ...grin
sigh
Time will tell ...
And folks may wonder why more of the older folks are becoming
solitaries ... me? I've always been one ...
