People have noticed in this area that magpies have pretty much
disappeared. Some think it's West Nile virus. I don't know, but I sure
notice there aren't nearly as much as there were say, 5 years ago.
I've also noticed that robins have pretty much disappeared since I was
a kid. I was gone from Idaho for 30 years, so I don't know when the
population dropped. There used to be TONS of them when you'd irrigate
(we flood our lawns from irrigation ditches here). I've seen only
about a dozen in the past 12 years. Way, way more squirrels, however.
I think the robins got poisoned by "professional lawn care". Imagine a
company with the BALLS to call itself "ChemLawn". I mean, really...
that sells? People WANT chemicals on their lawns??? When I was a kid,
we used to spread a truckload of cow manure on the yard every couple
of years. The grass was like velvet. Lots of really "perfect" lawns
here, but I guess people think that cow *** smells bad or something.
Fricking California pilgrims.
